The Snappi nappy fastener revolutionised cloth diapering over 26 years ago by offering a practical and reliable way to fasten a cloth diaper without the use of safety pins. The Snappi is still a handy cloth diapering accessory for parents wishing to use muslin squares or prefolds as an affordable and classical cloth nappy option.
The Snappi comes in two sizes and is made from a stretchy non-toxic material, which is T-shaped with grips on each end. These three grips hook into the nappy fabric to ensure a snug-fitting nappy, yet with enough natural movement for the baby. It is essential that a waterproof nappy cover such as the Blueberry Capri is worn over the nappy to prevent it catching onto something and coming undone.
By using the fastener with muslins or prefolds, more of the baby's bottom is covered with cloth than when the muslin or prefold is used as an insert inside a cover. This means that runny newborn poo remains more inside the nappy and the outer cover will be less often soiled.
The Snappi should be stretched in all directions before use to increase elasticity. Hold the flat pieces on the back of the grips to stretch or pull on the arms, buts do not pull on the rings.
It is important that the Snappi is not used on a child who is able to undo it or remove their own nappy / cover / clothing. The Snappi should only ever be used by an adult and it should be kept out of reach of children, in order to prevent pricking fingers on the sharp grips.Clean the Snappi in hot soapy water. Do not wash it with nappies in the washing machine as the grips could damage the fabrics by hooking into them.
